Athaotin (Wild Human)

Posted by EarthDragon on 22nd August 2015.

Athaotin are a rare variety of humans found in the deepest parts of the wilderness surrounding The Unification. Like other humans, they are known for their versatility and their willingness to adapt to the harsh realities of life in the wilderness. Athaotin culture is based on an oral tradition handed down through each tribe, and is influenced by the cultures of near-by races. Athaotin typically live a nomadic life which borders on a life on the run. Living outside The Unification, they often live in Fallen-held lands.

   Personality

Athaotin tend to be reclusive and tight-lipped, rarely speaking unless it is needful. In a group, they are generally happy to let someone else do the talking for them, unless they strongly disagree. Living in the brutal and harsh wilderness, Athaotin have a wild and violent streak, which can make such disagreements somewhat spirited, and even downright dangerous. Being used to living and roving in small bands, Athaotin are efficient killers, and think nothing of slicing an enemy open in full view on the street since to do otherwise in the wilderness is to die.

   Physical Description

An average Athaotin male stands between 6 and 6-½ feet tall and weighs 180 to 200 pounds. An Athaotin female is usually somewhat smaller, averaging between 5-½ and 6 feet in height and weighing between 100 and 140 pounds. This disparity in size in no way affects the abilities of Athaotin females, nor does it imply a secondary place in Athaotin society. The colours of skin, eyes, and hair vary widely, even to colours not normally seen on humans of other worlds. Facial features are often slightly bizarre; large chins or noses, pointed ears, complete lack of facial hair, etc. Colouration is also affected in some cases, resulting in skin tones that range from normal to coppery, to golden brown, to various shades of grey, or even to patchy collections of several colours. Even tinges of green, red or blue are not unheard of. Hair and eye colour can range from the normal expected colours to violet, purple, blue, orange, green, and various other unusual colours, or even to multiple colours on the one individual. Limbs are sometimes out of proportion to the body, extremities such as fingers and toes may be elongated or shortened, or even webbed. There is considerable latitude in appearance for Athaotin characters, so players should feel free to use their imaginations. It must be remembered, however, that these variations are never so severe as to result in a truly monstrous seeming character. The changes wrought by the unusual radiation of the desert regions is usually fairly subtle.

   Relations

Athaotin tend to have a superior attitude and stern demeanour sometimes that sometimes seems patronising to others, but they generally get along well enough with non-Fallen races. Having lived in the wilds outside The Unification and in the midst of the Fallen, however, their trust tends to be harder to earn.

   Alignment

Athaotin have no specific alignment tendencies, though those who hail from tribes which live close to other races tend to adopt the alignment of the race in question.
