Gith

The gith are grotesque humanoids that appear to be a peculiar mix of elf and reptile; in the minds of many in The Unification, they border on being Fallen. They seem to be a corrupt and degenerate branch of the race that gave rise to the planar githyanki and githzerai. None know exactly where they came from, or how exactly they are related to the githyanki and githzerai, but most agree that they are of the same initial species as the latter two races. The gith live in tribal organisations. The individual with the most powerful psionics generally acts as the leader. All other social positions are distributed at the pleasure of this individual. Not much is known about the reproductive cycle of the gith. It is known that they are egg-layers; the females lay approximately 1d6 eggs in a clutch. It is rumoured that the gith operate hatcheries containing hundreds (some say thousands) of nests. Mountain gith live in underground lairs, claiming a particular canyon or valley as their territory. Gith inhabiting the lands of The Unification tend to organise their society more along the lines of a nomadic hunting clan, going wherever the game takes them, while keeping one step ahead of prejudice and ill-feeling.

   Personality

The gith are a generally chaotic and barbaric race, barely tolerated within The Unification. They have no memory of their ties to the githyanki and githzerai, causing many to hypothesise that the circumstances of their split from their brethren drove those who became the gith insane. Their inherently chaotic and unpredictable natures seems to support this view to some extent, though most gith are no longer what could be called insane, just extremely unpredictable, prickly, and touchy.

   Physical Description

Gith are extremely gaunt and lanky, with long, gangling arms and spindly legs. Their hands have three fingers with no opposable thumbs, yet they able to use tools and wield weapons. Their fingers and toes end in sharp claws. If one could get a gith to stand up straight, they would measure close to 7’ tall. However, most gith appear to be no more than 5’ tall for they always stand hunched over at the shoulders, in a permanent slouch.

   Relations

Gith do not work and play well with others, and they do not hesitate to attack human or demi-human groups, for they view humans and demi-humans as a choice food supply, preferring it over all other flesh. Player character gith are exceptional examples of the species which is normally extremely primitive and barbaric. Because of the reputation of their people, and the common view that gith are barely a step removed from Fallen (not at all removed in some eyes), player character gith sometimes face some very tight diplomatic situations as a result of simple things such as buying bread or finding an inn for the night.

   Alignment

Gith tend strongly toward both chaos and evil, though player characters can be of any alignment.
