Human (Generic/"Civilised")

Humans are the dominant species in The Unification. Among the races, they are known for their versatility and their willingness to adapt to the often harsh requirements of a corrupt society living on the edge of extinction. Should the Fallen succeed in their aim to overrun The Unification, they will not rest until every living human (and the other races of course) is slain and probably eaten. The harshness of the world has forged their abilities into directions somewhat different from other branches of humanity found in other campaigns.

   Personality

Humans tend to be mostly fairly passive and collectivist in their views, though there are plenty that are ambitious and individualistic; even the tyranny of The Unification has not totally stamped out human diversity. Other races often don’t know what to expect when meeting a human for the first time, because predicting their behaviour based on cultural norms is difficult. “It’s human nature,” they say with a shrug whenever humans take some action for no apparent reason.

   Physical Description

An average human male stands between 6 and 6-½ feet tall and weighs 180 to 200 pounds. A human female is usually somewhat smaller, averaging between 5-½ to 6 feet in height and weighing between 100 and 140 pounds. This disparity in size in no way affects the abilities of human females, nor does it imply a secondary place in human society. The colours of skin, eyes, and hair vary widely within the Unification, even to colours not normally seen in humans of other campaign worlds. Facial features are often slightly bizarre; large chins or noses, pointed ears, complete lack of facial hair, etc. Colouration is also affected in some cases, resulting in skin tones that range from normal to coppery, to golden brown, to various shades of grey, or even to patchy collections of several colours. Even tinges of green, red or blue are not unheard of. Hair and eye colour can range from the normal expected colours to violet, purple, blue, orange, green, and various other unusual colours, or even to multiple colours on the one individual. Limbs are sometimes out of proportion to the body; extremities such as fingers and toes may be elongated or shortened, or even webbed. There is considerable latitude in appearance for human characters from the Unification, so players should feel free to use their imaginations. It must be remembered, however, that these variations are never so severe as to result in a truly monstrous seeming character. The changes wrought by the magical radiation of the siege of The Unification by the Fallen is usually fairly subtle.

   Relations

Humans tend to get along well with the races they co-mingle with, although their friendly attitude sometimes seems patronising. This congeniality toward other races is largely a cultural imposition caused by rigidly enforced housing district allocation and carefully maintained racial quotas in each district. As most humans are Civilians, they are expected to just nod and accept anything laid out for them by the Citizen’s Council, including how they treat their neighbours, irrespective of their origin.

   Alignment

Humans have no natural alignment tendencies, though they have acquired, over time, a cultural tendency toward law, especially at the Civilian level. Citizens pay little heed to cultural biases in behaviour imposed on Civilians and adopt whatever alignment they prefer. Even Civilians display considerable variation, in spite of the general tendency toward law.
